Derek & Elaine go Palace to Palace
The training was finally completed, the bikes all checked and ready to go - even the rain stayed away.... so there was absolutely no excuse, but to get on and do it!!!
Derek and I would like to say a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who sponsored us for The Palace to Palace cycle which took place yesterday. We are both humbled and proud that we managed to raise over £1100, which is fantastic.
With all your support, we kept up a good pace and managed to complete the 45 mile course in 3 hours and 58 minutes!!! Over 3000 participants took part yesterday, so we are delighted to say that we managed to finish 862nd and 863rd!
Here we are proudly showing off our medals and if you look closely you can see the finish line and Windsor castle in the background!!!
Thank you all very much. The money has gone to a very good cause - The Prince's Trust, helping young people by, running programmes that encourage them to take responsibility for themselves, helping them build the life they choose rather than the one they've ended up with.
Think we will take a couple of days now to see how we feel before we sign up for next year!
With grateful thanks
Elaine and Derek.... Team Hillier!!

Tri for life
Spencer Hannam, Digital Artist and Partner of Act Two-UM is taking part in his third triathlon, (a certain symmetry involved in that), on July 10th. Spencer has been training furiously for the past few months, he needs to get to a level of fitness where he can comfortably swim 800m in open water, cycle 30k and finish up with a 7,5k run. Not sure the word comfortably sits in with any of the above but that is the price you pay for choosing this type of activity as a hobby’!
Spencer starts his working day by swimming the equivalent of 1k in the local swimming baths. Not for the faint hearted this triathlon lark! After a morning spent sitting in front of a computer screen manipulating images he is often seen running from Shaftesbury Avenue to Primrose Hill of a lunchtime, when mere mortals are in the Lamb and Flag enjoying the same amount of calories which Spencer is burning off!
After work it is a brisk walk to Euston station to catch the train home, once he arrives home it is time to re-charge his batteries ready for the whole pattern to repeat itself the following day, those of you who are thinking re-charging his batteries involves sitting in front of the TV relaxing do not know about the 3 children and the dog who are needing his attention when he arrives home, not to mention the demands of his long suffering wife Joanne!
We wish him every success in the forthcoming event and hope he manages to raise lots of money for the very worthy causes involved.
Spence is raising money for 4 charities,
there is a link attached at the bottom of the blog if you would like to contribute.
